Abuta

Abuta is a  flowering plant with 32 speices, it is also kown as midwife herb, since it is used to treat a lot of women related problems. Abuta is a woody, climbing rainforest vine with leaves up to 30 cm long. It produces inedible, dark, grape-sized berrie.

Properties of Abuta

Abuta contain a group of plant chemicals called isoquinoline alkaloids. One of the species of Abuta; tetrandrine has pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory, and fever-reducing properties. The main chemicals in abuta are alkaloids, arachidic acid, bebeerine, berberine, bulbocapnine, cissamine, cissampareine, corytuberine, curine, 4-methylcurine, cyclanoline, cycleanine, dicentrine, dehydrodicentrine, dimethyltetrandrinium, essential oil, grandirubrine, hayatine, hayatinine, insularine, isochondodendrine, isomerubrine, laudanosine, linoleic acid, magnoflorine, menismine, norimeluteine, nor-ruffscine, nuciferine, pareirine, pareirubrine alkaloids, pareitropone, quercitol, stearic acid, and tetrandrin.

The major properties of Abuta are antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antihistamine, antioxidant, antispasmodic, diuretic, hypotensive (lowers blood pressure), muscle relaxant, uterine relaxant.

Uses of Abuta

·      Abuta is highly useful in for menstrual problems (pain, cramps, excessive bleeding, fibroids, endometriosis).

·      Abuta is used as a female tonic (hormonal balancing, menopausal libido loss, hormonal acne, premenstrual syndrome, childbirth).

·      Abuta is used as a general antispasmodic and muscle-relaxer  and help in cure of asthma, stomach cramps, muscle pain/strains, irritable bowel syndrome [IBS], diverticulitis.

·      Abuta is highly useful against kidney stones, kidney/urinary infections and pain.

·      Abuta is also It is also used to kill bacteria, prevents convulsions, ulcers, indigestion, skin irritations, cough, fever, intestional worms, wounds and in snake bite. It is used against poisonous snake bites and is very effective in skin related aliment.
